If we go from low to high in terms of complexity, the individuals at the lowest end of the spectrum, can perhaps be considered as unpledged digital humanists. Meaning, they do not visibly identify with being a digital humanist, instead they simply acquire and use various tools and simplified practices associated with the digital humanities to benefit their work. A anthropologist who uses archived documents for research, or a doctor of medicine who constructs systemized grants to distribute electronically or a study shared within a medical journal that is available online. These scholars are, individuals who are simply taking the tools offered to them for an easier and more efficient way of going about their work.

The middle of the spectrum will consist of a medium complexity, and the individuals feathered to this rank will recognize themselves as digital humanists and use aspects of the digital humanities in more detail. Specifically, these indivuals are scholars who utalize online databases and catalogues to work towards curating collections and creating their own academic blogs and websites. This could include a art historian creating a collection on ancient burial rituals or a professor creating a class website for student participation and involvement. The individuals at this point of the spectrum act as bridges between affiliation and membership within th study of the digital humanities.

Lastly, the end of the spectrum and most complex area, surrounds the individuals who are responsible for constructing and building new areas of study within the digital humanities. These scholars are the ones who work towards tenuring the digital humanities and finding new ways to spread its breadth of knowledge and research. These scholars are the ones who organize conventions and maintain and create publication journals and the standards for digital humanists to follow.

Ultimately what this spectrum does is shift focus away from definitions of what the digital humanities are and rather to the notion that the digital humanities are everywhere and used by everyone. Whether or not they recognize as a practicing scholar of the digital humanities or simply someone who makes use of the tools and components within the field of the digital humanities. Regardless of their affiliation, or stance in the matter, the digital humanities is a entity that will consistently be used in some degree or form, whether it is realized. This entity embodies the human condition and the changing digital age that accompanies it.

Within a spectrum of the digital humanities there will be varying degrees of complexity and usage in terms of how one might utalize the resources within the digital humanities to get their information and opinions across.
