For a scholar to fully be enveloped in the DH field, they have to do some reimagining of how to do their scholarship. The reimagining comes easy for some, not so easy for others. For a scholar to use digital humanities, they must find some form of humanities that can be translated to the digital. Translating humanities to digital humanities might mean using keyword search to find trends in data, creating a tool like the NINES project to promote digital scholarship, or scanning and uploading texts to a website so scholars all over the world can see them. Projects such as these are a departure from traditional humanities scholarship. I would argue that in order to do something that departs from the traditional, a scholar must be willing to change on some level, and will be changed on some level by accepting this new way of thinking.<\/p>\n
I find Ed Finn’s definition of digital humanities interesting in relation to this. Finn says, ” digital humanities…is an idea that will increasingly become invisible as new methods and platforms move from being widely used to being ubiquitous.” Finn’s belief that DH will soon become ubiquitous seems to point towards scholars not even realizing they are being changed. If what Finn believes is true, DH scholarship will become the main form of humanities scholarship, seemingly without people noticing it. I don’t believe it will become so ubiquitous so easily, but if it did, the fundamental change might hardly even be noticed by those who work in DH and the Humanities. In hindsight, the change will become clearer, but as change occurs, it is sometimes hard to notice. I am sure many pieces of scholarship will be presented in the future studying when DH became ubiquitous and what caused that shift from traditional scholarship. There might even be almost as many of those pieces as there are definitions of Digital Humanities right now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
DH can change people fundamentally, in that DH might force scholars to change their worldview on humanities.
