Hal, your website is very professional while still letting your personality shine through, which I enjoyed. Your website was pretty easy to navigate, and your menus were clear about the content inside. One thing I did notice is you have a contact page on your homepage and a separate listing on your menu bar on top for a contact page as well. You could remove one of those, one is enough. I enjoyed looking at the pictures, they give a clear sense of your interests and where you’ve been. I also thought it was a great idea to include not only examples of your student writing but also examples of the writing for The Dakota Student and The Odyssey articles. It gives a sense of the variety and depth of your writing. I noticed on a few of the pages you had a header image of a book on some rocks surrounded by water, which was pretty, but the image must have been a different size because once it loaded it took up the entire screen. The image was quite a bit bigger than the other header images and so I had to scroll down farther to get to the content of your pages. If that image could be edited to make it smaller and more similar to the other header images you have it would help with the aesthetic of the site. I overall enjoyed the theme that you chose as well, it was not jarring to look at and very neutral, which is good.
I like the eclectic design scheme, Hal; there’s a lot of “flair” on display here, which is a good thing.
I see that a few of the elements / pages (including the blog page) are still blank; feel free to mute these elements or pages if you don’t have material to add to them at this moment. In general, though, I think this site looks very nice and offers a nice roundup of your interests, activities, and accomplishments.
