The introduction for each of the projects can be found when you click on the Portfolio/Projects page (link: https://aliliffrig.wordpress.com/2016/11/29/portfolioprojects/). I didn’t want to put the introduction sentences again because I thought that would be redundant. However, I can see how my current layout would be confusing so I put a link to the main portfolio page at the beginning of each of its dropdown items. I also added the class name to those dropdown items to try and make the context more clear.
I agree with Matt’s suggestion re: the dropdown menu vs. dedicated links. I also had some difficulty interpreting the various “projects” listed on the portfolio menu, as they appear without context or explanation. A quick paragraph for each (explaining the assignment parameters / objectives) would be really helpful. Otherwise, I wasn’t able to discern, for example, the purpose or function of the hedgehog essay (though I found it enjoyable …)
Nice site design overall; the colors and images work nicely with the text and theme elements.
Ali’s website is professional looking and easy to navigate. The box within the picture on the homepage is well utilized to convey the activities and leadership roles of Ali. A nice personal touch was added to the site with the goodreads widget in the footer. Pictures throughout the site and a falling snow effect keep things lively. It is unfortunate that the hand drawn picture on the service page could not be put on the homepage! Each page in the “Service” category links to the organization’s website which is great for anyone who might become interested in these organizations after reading about Ali’s experience with them. A search bar on most every page provides yet another beneficial way to navigate the site.
Everything was very well put together and clean looking. I did notice a couple things that you might want to change, however, they are miniscule. Clicking the November link on the homepage’s calendar widget brings the user to a page with all posts from November. Scrolling to the bottom of this page, a placeholder blog post that reads, “This is the excerpt for your very first post.” can be found. It might be a good idea to delete that post. Similarly, after entering “service” in the search bar, a placeholder text for the about page comes up at the end of the results. I have one suggestion for the main “Portfolio/Projects” page and that is to link to the projects listed as subpages rather than referring the user to the drop down menu. Doing this will make navigation a little easier for the reader and could potentially make them more inclined to visit those pages. I am impressed with your website. Good work!
