Fall 2016 ENGL428: Digital Humanities

Mcpherson’s Prompt

1 Leave a comment on paragraph 1 0 Tara Mcpherson argues in her essay that even though digital humanities and race are separate fields in academia, they are similar in nature and need to be brought closer together. She explains how the difficulties faced in “knitting together discussions of race with technological productions within the digital humanities” are an outcome of the post-World War II computational designs (140).

2 Leave a comment on paragraph 2 2 “We must remember that computers are themselves encoders of culture…[and] Code and race are deeply intertwined, even as the structures of code labor to disavow these very connections” (155).

3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 1 In light of Macpherson’s essay, what are some of the possible solutions or suggestions that you think might work with brining these two “modes of inquiry” together? And what do you think the outcomes are going to be from doing that? What changes or influences would it bring to the humanities in general? And to the digital humanities in specific?
