While I like the overall look and feel of this website, Lloyd, I have a couple of suggestions:
1) I’d advise you to rethink using the third person style of narration. Relying on third person pronouns (he; she; it) suggests that you did not actually build the website yourself, whereas the use of first person pronouns (I; me) clearly indicates that you did, indeed, build it yourself. You want to take credit for your own work, right?
2) I’d caution against including full versions of research papers on your website, for a couple of reasons. First, they are liable to be downloaded and stolen by students looking for free papers on the Internet; you don’t want others taking credit for your work, I assume, nor do you want to encourage practices of plagiarism and cheating. Second, because these were assignments, the focus ought to lie not on the product per se (the paper itself) but on the process that you put into creating it. As such, rather than complete papers, I’d like to see short paragraphs describing the research that you did for a particular assignment, the sources that you consulted, and the argument that pieced together (think of this in terms of a short, 3-4 sentence abstract or “overview,” which comes across a bit more professionally). You can also describe what you learned from completing the assignment and, if you wish, post a section of the paper (like the intro paragraph …)
When you first enter Lloyd’s website, you get a fresh, clean and cut homepage. At the top, you get the options of going to different pages and at the bottom of the home page, you can access the blog posts that Lloyd creates. The photo is a clean photo of a camera and a plant. It creates a professional atmosphere.
When you click on the about page, it brings you to a personal page about Lloyd. A picture of lights presents itself as the page loads. When you scroll down, you get a professional picture of Lloyd in his photo. He gives a brief description of his personal self and uses his humor in his description.
After reading about his ‘About Me’ page, I decided to check out his contact page. The first thing you see is a photo of a cellphone in the hands of an individual. His contact page is pretty generic. The one you typically see on any other website. It has the option of entering your first and last name, email, and comments. It is the same thing that I have on my contact page.
The next page consists of his blogs. This is where he will create blog posts in the near future. I created on addressing the project and is expecting to create more.
The next option is going to projects. This one is a bit different than the rest. When you click on the Project page itself, it mentions that he has created many papers and projects, and for more information, click on the dropdown menu. His drop down menu consists of ‘Class Essays’ and ‘Creative Endeavors.’
When clicking on the essay page, you have the option of downloading 3 different papers that Lloyd has written in his collegiate career. When you click on the creative page, you get to see the book cover that Lloyd created in digital humanities. Scrolling down, you can see two creative stories that Lloyd has written.
All in all, Lloyds website is clean and professional. There are no mistakes in grammar that I could see. If I could change anything it would do add personal photos to the website. I get a sense of professionalism but I don’t really see anything personal. To go along with this, it would be wonderful if there was a bit more information added to the website. There wasn’t much information and I wish there was more.
