Things I like:
I like that your bio includes a pretty good, concise explanation of your research interests. Including both knitting and formal teaching experience. [Consider creating two parts of your teaching page, since this website might serve as a home for both Brittanys.]
The theme matches the “medieval” feel in a way. Nice touch! The font at the top is really cool.
Your social media links work, that’s good.
Critiques:
You list quite a few hobbies. While I think hobbies are a good thing, it does read on a little. You have some interests that are related, perhaps they can be condensed to sound more genuine.
Getting to the bottom of the page and having to scroll to the top [or even click the jump button] is unfortunate. Consider adding a side bar that allows for more navigation, if your theme allows it. Even then, your header image, while cool, is a little large and again might hinder the ability to get to the navigation bar.
To get your CV to show up the best way, without formatting getting junked up, first save it as a PDF. Then install a PDF plugin for your blog and it will automatically put it in the page when you add the file.
Considerations:
Is there a point to having different “home” and “about” pages?
Teaching page: “what I know to other,” should be “others”.
Do you have anything particularly cool you have taught to students/what they have created, at Rez or in Comp? Like any pictures of you teaching at a fair? Any particularly cool multimedia projects students have done and you can get permission to post?
Do you have anything else to say about your thesis? An abstract or part of your proposal? Who are you studying under? What are you reading?
This seems more list-y than post-y, but I hope the comments are still useful.
Wonderful comments and feedback, Sandi. Thanks for lending such a careful eye to Brittany’s work here.
And, Brittany, there is a lot to like about what you’ve put together here: great images, lots of interesting information, etc. It just requires a little bit of fine tuning and smoothing out, but I know you have plans to put additional work into it further down the line.
Nice job so far.
